One of my promises to myself as the calendar page flipped to a new year is that I would pick up my camera more, that I’d take more photos not just of my kids doing their growing up thing, and not just my iPhone. I promised myself that I’d pick up my big and heavy DSLR and that I’d start photographing the world around me again.
Our local county park system offers a photography series that gets photographers into the parks at sunrise or sunset. I signed up for a sunrise session at McLeod Plantation two weeks ago.
Here are some of the photos that came about that morning.
It felt good to have my camera in hand, focused on something other than schedules and work. It felt good to be moving as the sun came up and looking at the world through my lens. It’s been far too long.
I felt like I was meditating, like I was mindful and focused and in the moment. It was like self care and hobby rolled into one.
How are you taking care of yourself in the new year?
